Midview put on a stunning display of big plays in the early going and went on to outscore the Shoremen in the first scrimmage of the 2006 season. Avon Lake opened up on defense and stuffed the Midview rushing attack, holding the Middies to just six yards on their first seven plays. But on the eighth play, Midview’s QB found a wide-open receiver for a 69 yard TD strike. Then on the very next play, Middie RB Joe Harder went 75 yards untouched on a double handoff counter play. Once on offense, the Shoremen started slowly but improved steadily as the day wore on. The defense, however, continued to yield big plays as the DB’s lost track of the Middie receivers a couple more times for length-of-the-field completions. On the brighter side, The Shoremen running game did come to life in spite of top tailback Kevin Mansnerus and backup Jeff Tell being sidelined with injuries. Tim Harris hooked up with Eric Cail on a nice TD bomb, and sophomore RB Steve Mares had several impressive runs.
