In their last game as high school football players, the 12 seniors who represented Avon Lake in the Lorain County All Star game made us all proud again, leading the East team to a 40-6 win.   The first 33 points of the game were scored by our maroon & gold heroes, and Shoremen defensive end Carl Nielsen was named the game’s MVP.   Brian Pettys played another fine game at quarterback, throwing TD passes to Kyle Maurer and Sean Murello.  Scott Nealon caught a 55 yard TD bomb from North Ridgeville’s Jordan White.  The other TD by our guys came after Nielsen blocked a punt into the end zone and then Carl and Pete Storer covered the ball for the score. John Lyons was perfect on the night, kicking four consecutive extra points and a couple of field goals.  John’s 10 points led all scorers. Linemen Chris Mares, Jim Coyne, and Kevin Kerr all turned in solid performances, and Kyle Stokes delivered some highlight-reel hits from his safety spot. Chris Rau was nursing a strained hamstring & didn’t play.
