"Shoremen at
the Next Level"
November 20, 2004
While the season is over for
many college teams, several of our graduate gladiators are looking forward to
post season action. Saturday night at Akron,
the Miami Redhawks downed the Zips to win the MAC
East title. The Redhawks offensive line is led by
their senior co-captain, center Dave Rehker. Miami trailed at halftime after rushing for
just 34 yards in the first two quarters. But Dave and the rest of the line came
to life to lead the way for 195 yards on the ground in the second half. Miami will play Toledo
on December 2 for the MAC Championship, and should qualify for a bowl
appearance regardless of the outcome of that game. Click here to see some photos of Big Dave in action.
In other action Saturday:
- Mark
Lightfoot and Fighting Scots of Wooster College won their first round NCAA
Division 3 playoff game 41-34 over Aurora.
Saturday the Scots host Carthage
College in the round
of 16.
- Jesse Cole's Florida
State Seminoles took one on the chin against Florida, falling 20-13 to the Gators.
The loss kills FSU's hopes for a BCS bowl, but
they will certainly be playing somewhere in late December or early
January.
- The
Mount Union Purple Raiders, featuring leading rusher Jeff Strauch, earned a bye in the first round of the
Division 3 tournament. They'll play the Wheaton College Thunder Saturday
in Alliance.
