The Shoremen
seniors celebrated their last game on their home field in impressive fashion,
blowing out the Brecksville Bees by a score of 39-10. The balanced attack featured two touchdowns
rushing, two on bombs thrown by Trent Toy, a blocked punt returned for six, and
a 69 yard punt return by Kevin Morissette.
The defense completely shut down the visitors’ offense until the fourth
quarter when the Bees mounted a drive against the Shoremen reserves.
Starting the second
half Brecksville surprised a snoozing Shoremen front line with an onside kick,
so the Bees opened the second half at the A.L. 48. But the defense held and a big sack on third
and ten forced another punt. Morissette
fielded the ball at the 31, dodged four tacklers, and broke free down the left
sideline for a 69 yard TD return.
Brill’s extra point attempt sailed wide right and the score was 33-0
less than two minutes into the third quarter.
Again the Bees went three and out, and again Morissette gave the offense
good field position with a punt return to midfield. The Shoremen drove to the seven yard line but
Toy’s pass on 4th & 4 was incomplete. After one first down, a short Brecksville
punt was fair caught at the
Bees’ 38. On the next play
Andrew Tablack got behind the secondary and Toy hit him in stride for a 38 yard
touchdown. Another missed PAT left the
score at 39-0 with a couple minutes to play in the third. Brecksville managed a decent drive against
the Shoremen backups but stalled at the 13, turning the ball over on
downs. The number two offensive unit got
their gearshift stuck in reverse as a sack, a false start, and a shotgun snap
over the QB’s head resulted in a safety. The free kick was returned to the
